Acahualinca Women’s Center
The Acahualinca Women’s Center plays a vital role in theirs and neighboring communities for over 8,000 clients. Staff often forego salaries to pay for clinic necessities.The Center provides general medical care, legal aid, and job-retraining for poor women. The Center has a small pharmacy, a laboratory for simple testing, and space for workshops, such as family planning, self-esteem and Alternatives to Violence. ProNica grant funds pay for procedures and supplies. Staff often forego salaries to provide services.
In 2010, $4,510 was awarded for their annual cervical and uterine cancer education campaign, which includes free pap smears and biopsies for women unable to afford them. ProNica agrees to provide funds for tubal ligations for women at least age 25 with two children.

The Center has hosted Prevention International: No Cervical Cancer (PINCC) in recent years. This medical team examines women and treats simple diseases that, without early treatment, can become life threatening.
The Center also runs a small library and pre-school. ProNica awarded $300 for cleaning supplies.
